Riding in this year's Pelotonia bike tour were several of our brothers, doing their part to help fight cancer by raising money that will be used to research innovate ways to tackle one of the world's deadliest diseases. Pictured, from left to right, are: Tom Kaffenberger, Blake Chaney, Matt Melink, Josiah Dhaenens, Andrew Fawcett, Nathan Dugan, Dr. Matthew Stotlzfus (Faulty Fellow/House Manager), Jeremy LeDonne, and Zach Huttinger (not pictured: Alex Rapp).

Congratulations to our brothers who embarked on this extremely inspiring adventure for your hard work and dedication!

Spring Quarter Grades are In!

Print PDF

With most of our brothers enjoying the sun, studying abroad, or working at their respective internships, Spring Quarter's grades are probably the furthest thing from everyone's minds right now, except for one group. Ohio State's Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life recently posted this spring's academic report, and Sigma Phi Epsilon has again done quite well:

  • Cumulative GPA: 3.47, 1st among IFC Chapters, 3rd among all Greek Chapters
  • Quarterly GPA:  3.40, 2nd among IFC Chapters, 8th among all Greek Chapters
  • New Member Quarterly GPA: 3.34, 4th among Greek Chapters
  • New Member Cumulative GPA: 3.46, 2nd among Greek Chapters

SigEp is once again still far in front of the All-Greek Cumulative GPA (3.25) and the All-IFC Cumulative GPA (3.18). We are especially proud of our cumulative GPA, for which we have ranked 1st among IFC chapters per quarter since Autumn 2007.

Congratulations SigEp and keep up the hard work!

Brothers Joe Flarida ('12), Jeremy LeDonne ('12), Matt Lehrer ('13), Ryan Marcia ('12), Jason Moore ('12), Stephen Roth ('13), and John Tannous ('12) have all been selected to attend the 2010 LeaderShape retreat in Clarksville, Ohio.

LeaderShape is a six-day institute focusing on leadership skills through an exciting, hands-on, and unique program that has graduated over 30,000 participants since beginning in 1986. As members of this year's class of 67 participants, these brothers will utilize large group as well as family cluster (small group) discussion, interactive games and challenges, and self-reflection to set goals for the future and improve their leadership practices by examining integrity, inclusive leadership, vision, relationships, stretch goals, action steps and other integral parts of leadership.

This year's program runs from August 28-September 2, and will also feature another SigEp, former House Director Marco Valenzuela, as a Cluster Facilitator. Congratulations to everyone on their acceptance into this prestigious national program!

Dhaenens, Huebener Linked into Sphinx

Print PDF

It has turned out to be a special spring quarter for two brothers of Ohio Gamma as Ben Huebener, ’11 and Josiah Dhaenens, ’11 were both linked into the 104th Class of the Sphinx Senior Class Honorary. Josiah and Ben had also made news this quarter with their tapping as members of the 2010 Homecoming Court.

Sphinx is one of the oldest student honoraries on campus at Ohio State and has represented a diverse group of outstanding students for over 100 years. With their linking this year, Ben and Josiah join a proud tradition of SigEps in Sphinx, including the most recent 103rd class which included Brothers Andy DeLong, ‘10 and Brett Holubeck, ’10.

Of the honor, Josiah said, “As I was prepping with my advisor, Kurt Foriska, for an intense meeting with Athletics, a group of people in black gowns came around the corner and yelled ‘Sphinx links!’ Andy Delong then put his hands on my shoulders as Brett Holubeck read my linking letter. From there I followed the 103 class as they linked the rest of people into 104.”

Ben, who will be serving as the group’s president, was equally surprised by the honor, and is looking forward to a very special, and very busy senior year. Congratulations to both Ben and Josiah!
